Abstract
Describes the conservation of a seventeenth century linen nightcap embroidered with black silk, silver and silver gilt, edged with silver gilt bobbin lace. The cap, which was in poor condition, was wet cleaned using Lissapol N. The cap was then bleached (Amsterdam method) to remove the stains from the black dye which had ran some time in the past. Loose fragments were supported by sewing on to C19 linen dyed to match, and the entire cap then covered with silk crepeline. -- AATA
