In 1975 the board of directors of the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works approved its first project, that of an oral history archive. The purpose of the project is to compile and safeguard conservation history interviews, conservation correspondence and other records. Photographs and clippings are sought. Listed are 27 of the 225 milestone dates in conservation that have been compiled from oral recordings and conservation literature. The names of 33 pioneer conservators, scientists, art historians and administrators who have already recorded narrations are listed. Forty-two selected sources for a history of conservation in the twentieth century are provided.
