For Asia, art usually had a special purpose like its utility for religion. The meaning of the art was different and as such its physical form did not have much importance. An image or a religious work of art was not simply a piece of decoration or something only for aesthetic enjoyment. This view influences the approach to restoration. It is not always easy to convince the people that complete restoration or reconstruction of an object is not the best solution. For conservation programs to be effective, people must be made conscious of the modern approach to conservation. -- AATA
