Abstract
An analytical survey of Egyptian Faience from Predynastic to Roman Times is the subject of this book. Methods of sampling and the selection of objects are described. X-ray fluorescence and atomic absorption spectrometry were the techniques used to analyze the samples and numerical results of these analyses are presented. The composition of faience glazes is discussed in detail as well as the composition of faience bodies. The nature of color in faience is also described. Geographical and historical aspects of faience are considered. An extensive appendix describes the technology of manufacture of Egyptian Faience as determined from a survey of 700 samples.
