Abstract
Excessive iron in water supplies causes stains on fabrics but tests have shown that satisfactory removal of iron can be obtained by filtration provided there is suitable gradation of the filter material, that a suitable alkali is used, and that there is oxidation during the filtration. Man-ganese is also objectionable and can be removed by a further increase of pH or addition of oxidizing agent. -- AATA
