The restoration of historic musical instruments creates many problems. Not only were many different materials used for their construction and embellishment, they have in most cases been played since the time they were made. They therefore suffered many changes throughout the various epochs of style and technological stages of development. The harpsichord described in this article was strongly altered at theend of both the 18th and 19th centuries. Because of its music-historical value and its bad condition, extensive restoration and reconstruction work was necessary, which is described in detail. R.-D.B. -- AATA
