A review of the literature over the past 90 years focusing on recent developments on the biodeterioration of wool fibers. The general nature of biodeterioration (mildew) is described as are methods for assessing the activity of microorganisms on textiles and preventing attack. The nature and effect of mildew on wool fibers are illustrated with excellent light and electron micrographs. A brief section on biocides is included.
