Lyctus powder-post beetles attack and extensively damage products made from the sapwoods of various species of hardwoods. Ring-porous woods are much more subject to attack than diffuse- porous species. Extensive studies have shown that losses can be reduced substantially. This article describes briefly the life history and habits of the beetles and outlines methods of prevention and control.
