Methods have been developed for the determination of microgram amounts of zinc, phosphorus, and sulfur on individual bearing balls, from 0 to 20 micrograms. Even though chemical analysis shows that the film composition varies form ball to ball within a given set of bearing balls, the microchemical method has served to establish standard values from sets of balls, and thus to permit accurate calibration of the X-ray fluorescence equipment.
