Abstract
A survey of the use of ultraviolet radiation in the conservation laboratory and field archaeology. The nature of ultraviolet radiation and the history of its application to the examination of objects is briefly covered, followed by a full discussion of the applications of ultraviolet radiation for examination techniques and photography of a wide variety of cultural objects, and for some archaeological field work. The article concludes with a survey of the published literature on the subject.
