Abstract
Until 1977, the Country Life Section of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland had no permanent exhibition building, and performed few major conservation treatments. Since then, a joiner and a blacksmith/engineer have become part of the staff, and many large pieces have undergone treatment. Hendry provides a case study of the renovation of a mill van, and discusses the Section's program of regular maintenance for machinery.
