Abstract
Two American Indians, a sculptural group by Ivan Mastrovic, which has stood in Grant Park (Chicago, Illinois) since 1927, recently underwent massive conservation. The work, undertaken by the Sculpture Conservation Laboratory of Washington University Technical Associates, was a several-year effort. It involved the removal of 3000 pounds of stabilizing concrete from the interior and its replacement with a stainless steel armature, the repair of large cracks, the peening of the surface to remove corrosion products, the chemical patination of the surface, and the application of a protective acrylic-resin coating. -- AATA
