An experimental charcoal-fired furnace was built in the laboratory to simulate and reconstruct the smelting and refining techniques used at Timna, in southern Israel. Experimental smeltings were also conducted at the site of Timna itself. The results of these experiments are summarized, along with the conclusions for ancient bronze technology at this site.
