A program has been initiated by the Germanisches Nationalmusem in Nürnberg and the University of Erlangen to study the crafting and manufacture of old furniture: the material and technology. During the past three years, there have been a number of restoration projects on late 18th-century furniture manufactured by the Roentgen family. This study focuses on ten tables which are classified into five categories: the pier-table, writing-table, drawing table, playing table, etc. The five groups, dating from 1742-1790, are discussed within their historical context; measurements and descriptions of the woods are included, as well as construction drawings. -- AATA
