Two types of bricks were tested after consolidation and protection with a polyurethane product (Isostar C) and a hydrophobic silicone (Procem S). The first type was consolidated and the durability of the consolidant studied after artificial weathering cycles. The second type was consolidated and protected and absorption capacity was measured before and after artificial weathering cycles. The main positive effect was due to the consolidant which increased the mechanical strength of the brick and reduced water absorption; the addition of the hydrophobic protection further decreased the water absorption. -- AATA
