Abstract
The Moessbauer patterns of ancient Egyptian potsherds with differently colored layers representing different degrees of oxidation were studied at 4.2, 120 and 300° K, and additional re firing experiments were performed. The results show that the occurrence or nonoccurrence of the Morin transition in the hematite is a valuable feature in the Moessbauer characterization of ceramics.
