Abstract
Pottery fragments from an ancient graveyard in Austria were determined to be about 2650 years old by a thermoluminescence method, and the age agreed quite well with the archaeo-logical evidence. The measurement of natural thermoluminescence was performed on mineral extracts from three ceramic fragments. Potassium in the fragments was determined by flame photometry and U and Th were determined by neutron activation analysis. Thermolumin-escence calculations permitted the determination of the time since the ceramic material was heated to very high temperatures (in its firing), and thus gave the age of the artifact. -- AATA
