Abstract
After defining pottery sherd as a porous glass/mineral mixture, several methods of determining the firing temperature are described: Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Moessbauer spectrometry for determining the state of magnetization, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for direct observation of the phases, and dilatometer readings for the sherd as it is found and after refiring. -- AATA
