Abstract
A summary of current practice in the treatment of artifact by thymol fumigation is given. Treatment is only effective when the object is returned to suitable environmental conditions, that is, low humidity. Thymol can damage sensitive objects and should not be used routinely. Hazards to humans are also discussed.
