Abstract
The catalogue cover is made of embroidered filet lace and was originally laid over a black linen or woollen cloth. Westphalian in origin, it dates from the 17th century. It measured 347 x 150 cm before restoration and afterwards 361 x 152 cm. In places there were large losses and in general it was distorted. After testing for colourfastness it was washed in demineralization water with an anionic detergent, Hostapon T (o. 1 g/litre) and dried on a soft fibre board. An undyed whitish silk organza was chosen for support, with black organza pieces infilling the embroidered losses. For the holes a linen thread dyed to match was used. Storage in an rh of 50-60% at a temperature of 19 degrees c and 50 lux illumination is recommended. Photographs.
