A library is, in effect, a concentration of foodstuffs for the common pests, insects, rodents and mould, that attack the collections. The best protection is provided by an integrated pest management programme (IPM), i.e. the use of a combination of control techniques. The most common pests encountered in libraries are insects (cockroaches, silverfish, carpet beetles, drugstore beetle, psocids), rodents (mice) and mold. These are reviewed and the ipm approaches necessary for their control and prevention are outlined. Drawings, references and notes.
