Abstract
Thermoluminescent dating by the quartz inclusion technique, fine grain technique, and predose technique is reviewed. The ages for the earthenwares of Ban Chiang, Thailand, were found to be 1210-6390 BP, and those of the Yosekura cave, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan, 1085 ± 35-around 7590 ± 230 BP. The oldest age so far found by the thermoluminescent method in relation to the earthenware is 11840 ± 740 BP for the burnt stone found in the Senpukuji cave, Nagasaki prefecture. The ages of pyroclastic flow deposits in the southern Kagoshima prefecture are 5720 ± 920-around 164000 ± 9400 BP. The method permits estimation of the age of earthenwares with an error of about 20%.
