Abstract
A series of Roman ceramics was analyzed microscopically and by x-ray diffraction analysis. The firing temperature could be deduced from minerals that have formed in the sherd. The dependence of porosity on the amount of temper could be shown by means of mercury penetration porosimetry. -- AATA
