Abstract
Catalogue of an exhibition at the Borghese Gallery, Rome, 1972-73. Raphael's Deposition , painted for the Baglioni Chapel in San Francesco al Prato in Perugia, later passed to the Borghese collection. It underwent several restorations after 1875; the latest, by the Istituto Centrale del Restauro (Rome) is described and illustrated. A metal armature was removed from the back of the wooden panel, and the painting cleaned of previous varnish and overpaintings. After restoration, a new protective system of 6 mobile supports was constructed. Diagrams, related drawings, bibliography.
