It is a well known fact that developed countries are at present paying dearly for their industrialization. Many urban centers in these countries are suffering from acid rain and smog, which have adverse effects on the durability of stone. The present paper deals mainly with the problems which will be facing developing countries as they advance with industrialization. These countries are not overly concerned at present with the after effects of industrialization. Obviously, priority should be given to development; however, attention must also be given to problems which will come into existence as a result of industrialization. The paper points out the likely stone built monuments, sculptures and other buildings durability problems which will be faced by developing countries as a result of industrialization.
