Abstract
The author has studied the capabilities of some ultrasonic methods for determining the state of fine art objects made of stone. It was found: 1) Using the transmission method it is not possible to detect faults smaller than 1/5 of measurelength; 2) In case of the echo method the average method must be applied because the coherent signals are too strong; 3) The surface transmission method gives the possibility of an underurface state estimation, but the measure accuracy is not sufficiently large to calculate the strength-depth-dependence.
