Abstract
A method of obtaining a glaze for pottery was discovered in the 14th or 15th centuries by introducing salt into the kiln. The conditions for obtaining such a glaze, and its characteristics, are outlined as is its history in Germany, England, and France (16th-19th centuries), and the United States (18th-19th centuries). Today, the same technique is often used. Methods of producing a craquelure glaze and different colors are discussed. Excellent artistic results may be obtained on any type of surface. -- AATA
