Abstract
A pottery furnace has recently been discovered at Classe (Ravenna), complete with kilns and dumping systems; it was used from the 5th to 8th centuries. The furnace, and the sherds discovered with it, are described. Its production shows that it formed part of the Eastern trading area which includes Asia Minor, Greece, and Egypt, although it was situated at its outskirts. The glazed pottery found is a direct link with early medieval types; in other words, it denotes continuity of production from antiquity. -- AATA
