Twenty-one metal artifacts from excavations by the School of American Research at Tajumulco were studied as to composition, method of manufacture, and probable place of origin. They were made from very pure copper, some containing traces of silver, but not gold or other metals. The copper ore was probably obtained from Chiapas or the highland of Guatemala. Casting was done by the cire-perdu, or lost wax process.
