The project consisted of preparing this textile for its exhibition and improving its storage within the collection. The textile is part of the collections of the Museo de la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos. This textile is a mantle 271 cm long and 148 cm wide. One of the major problems was its storage; it being a piece of such large dimensions in a storage where there was not adequate place for it. Its main conservation problem was due to a previous treatment that had applied a support that was not adequate for the piece, because it was a smaller cloth sewn to the back of the mantle. Along with all these problems, we had to face the lack of an adequate space for this job, as well as storage where the environmental conditions were not appropriate for textiles. The challenge of this job consisted in adjusting the existing conditions to complete the conservation work; creating a solution to the storage and exhibition problems; and finally, providing appropriate recommendations for the continual monitoring of the piece, once this important mantle is recovered.
