Abstract
A large number of synthetic resins have been used since the 19th century to imitate amber. These artificial materials were used in North Africa and western Asia for the fabrication of necklaces and similar objects. Infrared spectroscopy makes it possible to identify the resins. Bakelite, styrene, polyester, acrylamide, and cellulose nitrate were identified. -- AATA
