The Laugen pottery is a group of ceramics from the Iron Age which occurs regionally in wide areas of northern Italy and southern Switzerland. Since the geology of the Alps shows an extreme variety in types of stones it appeared to be possible to characterize a type of pottery precisely by the temper used, which differs significantly over short distances. Thus it was possible to characterize a pottery in a triangular diagram by its amount of temper from volcanic, sedimentary, or metamorphic rocks, which revealed distinct groups. An extensive exchange of this type of pottery could be proven. -- AATA
