The various types of natural stone that were used in Munich were mapped to document their state of weathering and the phenomena of decay. On the basis of this extensive material the various causes of decay are discussed with the aim of understanding the contribution of the different factors affecting stone. Tests have been developed to determine the weathering rate and the progress of decay from the time of the erection of a building or monument to the present day. -- AATA
