Abstract
A number of alkaline materials are used for repairing historical buildings: portland cement, water glass, alkaline cleaning materials. These compounds may cause salt crystallization or transform into gases. They can also react with salts already present in walls. As a result of these reactions, new salts are formed which further contribute to stone decay. -- AATA
