Ten Americans from the Archaeological Society in Chicago delivered the ten lectures which make up the ten chapters of the book. Contents include: Greek Building, by Robert Scranton; Roman Imperial Building, by James E. Packer; Bronze Working: by Dorothy Kent Hill; Stone Carving, by Brunhilde Sismondo Ridgway; Pottery Manufacture, by Joseph Veach Noble; and Farming, by Grundy Steiner. Noble's chapter on pottery includes photographs of work at the potter's wheel, decoration of pots, and the description of the firing process.
