Abstract
The use of adhesives for the assembly of instruments or associated parts is broadly reviewed with particular reference to applications in mechanical, optical, electronic and nucleonic instrumentation. The nature of adhesive materials and their advantages and limitations for the instrument construction are discussed with emphasis on the importance of other properties for the integrity of instrument performance. Factors to be considered in selecting an adhesive for instrument assembly are outlined in a concluding summary. A recent bibliography on adhesion and adhesives is included.
