Abstract
A review of petrographic anallysis of Pecos pottery in the 1930's in order to test the archaeological significance of ceramic technological analysis. The findings indicate that the various tempering materialls were not geologicalllly availlablle from the pueblo area. The paper reviews the history and importance of early studies, and discusses the role of technical analysts (and the experimental methods available to them) in archaeologicall work. -- AATA
