This paper concerns the origin and development of traditional settlement in Oman; specifically, the analysis of the physical layout of the settlements. Research included: 1) examination of aerial photographs; 2) ground reconnaissance to identify the relevant settlement features and possibly find evidence of development phases; and, 3) surveys and excavations.
