Abstract
This article deals mainly with the introduction of humidification methods used in textile conservation, and considers the advantage and disadvantage of each method, as well as their fields of application. Humidification methods can be divided into closed systems and open systems, with the closed system being the one mostly used. The saturated salt solution method, ultrasonic humidifier, absorbent layers method, auto controlled humidification chamber, suction table and membranes methods are the commonly used close system methods. To understanding the principles of fibres absorbing water, the affective factors of humidification result, each textile object's problems, conservation purpose, future use, working conditions and etc should be considered. It should be realized that the potential damage to textile objects could be caused by improper humidification methods. The key element of humidification treatment is how to select the proper humidification method with preconditions mentioned above under the real working circumstances.
