Abstract
The author discusses parchment in general, then dry and wet cleaning, including the use of alcohol, bleaching marks with 8% hydrogen peroxide, or hydrogen peroxide with the addition of ammonia or potassium iodide. Fat or wax marks are removed with alcohol which is also used as a disinfectant. Ink damage is treated with ammonia. Softening is with a mixture of sperm oil, gelatine carbon tetrachloride and water. Humidification uses alcohols. A recipe is given for the preparation of parchment size. The treatment of very hard parchment is also described. Repair is with Japanese paper, silk chiffon, and goldbeaters' parchment. Ink is not regenerated.
