The Golden Hall of the Chuson-ji temple at Hiraizumi, Iwate prefecture, was built in 1124. Among the articles for decoration of the interior in the temple, the author has examined in this paper eleven pieces of lacquered articles. Through microscopic examinations the author has found the same techniques of lacquer work in all eleven pieces. The shape of the golden particles used for the Makie technique, which is observed in the articles, shows the typical characteristic of the twelfth century. Inside the Golden Hall there are three altar daises, one of which is a built-in structure. It is supposed to have been made in the same year as the Golden Hall. However, the other two daises, which are located beside the built-in dais, show some different features in the style of structure and decoration. These are believed to have been made around 1160. The technique used for the articles is very similar to that of the two daises, not to the built-in dais settled at center. Therefore the author concludes that the articles were made around 1160 at the same time as the manufacture of the two daises. See also AATA 14-16.
