Abstract
Since 1890 the Kulturen Historical Museum in Lund has been collecting archaeological leather, mainly shoes but also other items. Oil and fat impregnation were the early treatment methods. Since 1960 treatment has involved use of lanoline in toluene. A better, more recent method uses a succinic acid derivative, ASAK-ABP. After treatment shoes can be reconstructed. Photographs of excavated material, equipment used in treatment and some finished shoes are included.
