The new painting conservation center at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City was opened in 1980. The two story department was designed by its director John Brealey. The main studio, with banks of skylights and north windows is described. Other facilities include a large area for structural treatment, three analytical laboratories, a two story spray room, library, offices and a seminar room.
