A recently published new technique of relining paintings with a surface which could suffer from the normal relining techniques is described. The painting, which lies with the reverse side on the vacuum table is not entirely covered with a foil, but only on its borders to maintain a vacuum between painting and table. An impregnation of the original canvas with methyl cellulose and the use of an acrylic emulsion for relining seal the painting completely against a loss of vacuum.
