In the case of wall paintings there is often a need to consolidate paint layers. Based on examples in Warsaw, the author describes the technical fundamentals, the principles of paint consolidation and the necessary requirements for good stabilizing agents. Mistakes that become apparent after the stabilizing agent has reacted with the paint are illustrated by means of schematic drawings. -- AATA
