Abstract
Trace percentages of Mn, Cu, Ba, Cr, Ag and Sb of lead white were determined. By model experiments an analytical procedure for a radio-chemical process of separation combined with -- Spectroscopy was established. The limits of detection were 5.10-10 g for Ba; 2. 10-10 g for Cr; 10-10 g. For Ag and Cu; 10-11 g for Mn and Sb. The samples partially weighed 10 g only. The lead white mainly was from Venetian and Dutch paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries. Significant discrepancies of Mn-, Agand Sb, percentages of Venetian and Dutch lead white were observed. Modern and ancient lead white differ also quite distinctly in their Cuand Bacontent.
