Abstract
The author recounts the history of restoration projects for the Evreux cathedral which were defective, thus jeopardizing the stability of the disputes between architects and archaeologists which were fueled by Viollet-le-Duc's restoration concepts. It also illustrates the profound disagreement which split the clergy and the administration of historic monuments. The concept of the latter prevailed, but the dispute gave rise to a new trend in the philosophy of restoration, archaeological scruples . -- AATA
