Abstract
Borobudur, the Buddhist sanctuary on the island of Java, was totally forgotten with the coming of Hinduism; the stones decayed, sculptures were stolen and water seeped in. Following a campaign to alert world opinion a ten-year programme of work was initiated; the sanctuary has been entirely disassembled, cleaned and inventoried before being rebuilt on the same site. -- AATA
