Since 1979 the Bavarian monument offices use the Imchemie process for stone consolidation, which impregnates stone under vacuum and pressure with a monomer acrylic resin, which is polymerized within the stone after impregnation. After initial difficulties now convincing results are obtained, without negative changes of the appearance of the surface. The process is used for sandstones, limestones, and marbles.
