Abstract
In the author's recently published book, <i>A Guide to the Conservation <i>and Restoration or Objects made wholly or in part or Leather, much wassaid about the ravage of museum property caused by red rot , the name given to the chemical degradation which leads eventually to the total destruction of certain kinds of leather. No cure for this condition, believed to be caused by sulphur dioxide, is known, but this article describes a method which enables affected objects to be saved from destruction, at least for a long period.
